Several methods both on and outside the agricultural field are used in order to reduce the nitrogen loss to coastal waters. Some of these methods outside the fields still needs further investigation, optimization and documentation before being introduced as new solutions.
One of these methods are the constructed mini-wetlands with filtering matrices (MMM-plant) or more precise a woodchip denitrification bioreactor. In order to obtain additional knowledge of this method, Department of AgroEcology, Aarhus University has, on behalf of the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark, and in collaboration with Orbicon and BM Bogense established a full scale MMM pilot plant at Hoffmansgave. The official opening will take place Friday 26 October (Learn more about the MMM pilot plant - in Danish).
