Preparing for the future with WATEC Early-Career Researchers Retreat
About 100 researchers are associated with WATEC and about 50% are Early-Career Researchers (PhD students, postdoc etc.). The idea of a WATEC Early-Career researchers retreat emerged due to a desire to strengthen the network between WATEC Early-Career Researchers as well as exploring and preparing for future careers.
WATEC had the pleasure of hosting the WATEC Early-Career Researchers Retreat October 4-6 2021 at Helnan Marselis Hotel, Aarhus. Apart from socializing, the main purpose was to explore career options for Early-Career scientists with a combination of workshops and talks. The first day focused on an academic research career with a workshop about grant writing and talks about personal experiences. The day was concluded with a 90 sec madness session where the researchers were given an opportunity to introduce their research. The second day focused on a career in industry with a workshop on communicating your skills and talks from various industry representative about their career path and work. The last day of the retreat focused on leadership and the transition into a research group leader.
